NordPass has published a list of the most common passwords used during 2021.
Unsurprisingly, this is an almost identical list of the worst passwords of last year. In other words, people still use very weak and common passwords, which can be easily hacked.
The NordPass password management service has published a list of 200 most used passwords, based on its research.
The list provides an insight into the passwords themselves, how long it takes for each of them to be cracked, and how many times they have appeared as part of their research.
You have probably guessed, the most used password is “123456”. This extremely commonly used password has appeared more than 103 million times in the NorsPass survey, and it takes less than a second to hack.
In fact, each of the top 10 passwords, and all but one of the top 50, can be hacked in less than a second.
From the second to the fifth place of the most used passwords, there are “123456789”, “12345”, “qwerty” and “password”.
On the other hand, among the passwords that are more resistant are “1g2w3e4r”, “gwerty123”, “myspace1” and “michelle”, and it took about three hours to hack it.
NordPass also identified the countries most affected by the data leak. They are led by the United States, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, France, Italy and Germany.
