The Ariana 5 (Ariane) rocket, which carries the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), took off from the space base in French Guiana at 12:20 (GMT) today, the Agence France-Presse reported on the spot.

The motorized flight should take 27 minutes, before separating the telescope, which will be located 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.

JWST, a very complex engineering gem, will be the largest and most powerful telescope ever launched into space. It was built in the United States under the leadership of NASA with the help of the European and Canadian space agencies.

The telescope will explore with great precision the phase of the cosmos, from the first period of the universe, the big bang, to the creation of the first galaxies.
