Before it snows and temperatures drop below zero, make sure you follow these 4 steps. December is the ideal month to do the following on your car:
1. Pour antifreeze
Many people remember freezer only when temperatures drop below zero and the first frost occurs, but it is very important to pour freezer before it “hits” minus.
A large number of motors have a cooling system that uses refrigerant, i.e. freezer, because it effectively removes excess heat from the mechanisms and all individual parts of the engine structure, contributing to faster reaching of operating temperature when it starts.
Refrigerant (freezer) constantly circulates from the engine to the radiator and back. Although its main role is to lower the freezing point of the liquid and thus prevent engine damage, the coolant has other important properties:
- Increase the boiling point of water
- Prevent the formation of lime
- It has anti-corrosion effects
- Lubricate engine parts
2. Check the battery
Make sure the one you have in the car is still under warranty. The last thing you want is for the battery to “die” in the middle of winter.
3. Wipers and windscreen wipers
In winter, this liquid is consumed more because the roads are dirty. All kinds of accidents happen in the parking lot, so look at the wipers, because without them winter driving is impossible.
If the car is not new, cover the tire between the door and the vehicle as they may freeze. This also applies to the lock. The last few winters have been pretty hot, but if there is big frost, it will catch us unprepared. So make sure you have a snow shovel in your trunk, although it may be wiser to keep it in the house in case the car snows.
